My Journey

Hi!  My name is Gena Kearn.  I am a fine artist and art educator working in Concordia, Kansas.  I like to say that I am a proud American with an Irish heart as I have been enamoured with my family’s Irish heritage since I was a little girl.

That young age is also where my journey with art began as I was inspired by my Grandma McConaughey’s beautiful oil paintings of florals, landscapes, portraits and animals.

My love of art and working with children lead me to pursue a degree in Art Education from Fort Hays State University, Hays, Kansas.

Upon graduating in 2002, I returned to my hometown where I continue to share my love of art with students in grades 6-12.

While continuing to teach full-time, I returned to FHSU in 2013 working toward a Masters of Liberal Studies with a focus in Studio Art which I completed in 2016.

That is where my ENDURING ROOTS series emerged and where my first steps in the professional art world were taken.

Today, I continue to enjoy working with my students while also continuing my journey down the professional art road as a colored pencil Celtic floral artist.

I’m looking forward to seeing where the journey leads and I’d love to share it with you!  Be sure to join the ENDURING ROOTS INSIDERS to share the journey with me and to snag some great goodies.  There’s a sign-up form below.

Thanks for your interest!  I hope that you enjoy my work.  Feel free to get in touch if there’s anything I can do to help – [email protected].

Blessings and Joy Be to You!

My Inspiration

My artwork is the culmination of three sources of inspiration that have endured throughout my life. My faith, my love of flowers, and my Irish heritage are central to who I am as a person and artist.

These three enduring roots are a continual source of hope and nourishment for my soul.

Like faith, flowers are both beautiful and delicate calls to life. I am fascinated with their intricacy and love the challenge of capturing their divine design in my work as well as combining them with Celtic crosses.

The varied and vastly complex designs of the Celtic cross as an Irish expression of faith capture the historical heart of the Irish people as well as the same detail and beauty that I find in flowers.

Perhaps it is my Irish roots, but in these two, flowers and Celtic crosses, I can not help but sense an ongoing connection between Heaven and Earth.
