Artist Statement:
I love that flowers have the ability to bring light, hope and beauty to our lives. I can’t help but smile when I see one, and I love the challenge of drawing them realistically, capturing their delicacy, beauty, and the way the light can make their petals glow.
I think that the fascinating intricacy and beauty of Celtic cross designs are such a great compliment to the intricate, divine design living in flowers telling them how to grow and bloom. So, I love being able to combine those things in my work.
More than that, this artwork allows me to combine three things that have endured throughout my life as sources of inspiration, renewal, grounding and growth – that’s my faith, my love of flowers, and my Irish heritage. I see them as the enduring roots of my life – the things that have stuck around through the years keeping me rooted or grounded, and providing the inspiration and renewal that help me grow. So, I call this artwork my “Enduring Roots” series.
As I share my work with others, I’m discovering that it’s often a source of light, hope, and beauty for them. What an honor that is!
