Majestic Vistas of the Dingle Peninsula!

After a heavenly breakfast at Pax House, we began our journey around part of the Dingle Peninsula on the Slea Head Drive where we were met with one stunning view after the next.  The drive was not as nerve-wracking as I had feared from the photos I’d seen over the years.  We were certainly driving on the edge of the mountains with steep sea-cliffs just on the other side of the road, but not quite as frightening as the photos made it look (at least in my opinion, Mom might disagree! Ha!).  I was particularly taken with the landscape around Coumeenole Beach.  I can’t quite put my finger on “why” – just something about the beauty of the area and the way the landscape meets the ocean.

I was also glad that the day was clear enough that we could see out to the Great Blasket Island which is sometimes called the “Sleeping Giant” as it looks like a man laying down for a snooze.

After taking some time to walk down to Coumeenole Beach, we continued on to Louis Mulcahy Pottery where we spent a lovely afternoon shopping and having a bite to eat in the café there.  We enjoyed ourselves so much there though that we had to cut the rest of our exploring short so we could get back to Dingle and pick up our laundry from the launderette before it closed.

We did a bit more shopping in Dingle though and had Murphy’s Ice Cream for supper!  Murphy’s is an ice-cream chain that started in Dingle and uses only local ingredients to make the ice-cream and sorbet. Oh. My. Word is it good!!!  If you ever get the chance, you’ve got to try some, especially the Raspberry Sorbet!!!

Here are some photos of Dingle town and a brief video of an Irish Step Dancer that we stumbled upon after dinner one night.

Check back for Day 9 where we meet Fungie the Dolphin!

God’s Blessings & Joy Be To You,
